What’s the best way to store sex toys?

Even those of us with especially large collections of sex toys and fetish equipment know that it’s not always appropriate to have these items on full display in your home. 

Also, even if you don’t mind having your unmentionables out on the dresser, you don’t want your toys collecting dust when they’re not being used. Otherwise, they’d need to be cleaned every single time you wanted to use them, and when it’s time to play, patience isn’t always a virtue. 

Safely storing your sex toys makes sure that they all stay clean and completely private. 

Below, we’ll go over some easy tips and methods for maintaining the quality of your toys and keep them far away from other family members and curious pets.

Set Your Budget

Before getting started on safely storing your sex toy collection, you should try to set a budget. This may seem a bit silly at first, but just remember that the number one priority here is to protect your toys and help them stay in great condition for years to come. 

If you have lots of expensive toys in your possession, then it would be helpful to use higher-end materials and new purchases to store them, rather than repurposing items you already had around the house. 

If your collection simply consists of a few basic dildos and vibrators that weren’t all that expensive to begin with, it’s still important to protect these toys, but you won’t need to use expensive or brand new materials to store them. 

Clean Your Collection

Choosing a bag that’s a tight fit for a specific toy could lead to the bag tearing, and if the storage bag tears when you’re not paying attention, your toy is exposed to the open air once again, and you’re right back to square one. Ill-fitting toys can also ruin zipper bags at the drop of a hat. 

Also consider that if specific toys have chargers or other accessory items, you’ll probably want to keep those right with the toy as well, so make sure the bag you choose has plenty of room for both. 

Keep Tabs on Your Bags 

As we mentioned above, you may choose to use Ziploc bags to store your sex toys, and there’s nothing wrong with these basic plastic bags. They’re a solid, inexpensive option that you can find in just about any grocery or drug store. 

But plastic bags, even pricier ones, have a shelf life. If you put toys back in their bags without cleaning them first, then bodily fluids on various lubricants could eat through the bags completely. 

This is just one of many reasons why you should keep a close eye on your storage bags. No, they probably won’t fall apart overnight, but neglecting their condition for too long could lead to your collection sitting in a dirty box with no real protection, just like they were before you started. 

If you’re looking for a much more durable storage option, then you may consider purchasing small nylon or cotton bags for your entire collection. 

This will definitely be a slightly more expensive option than standard plastic bags, but these varieties will last years longer and keep your toys in great shape. 

Another great feature about bags intended for reuse is that many can be washed alongside your laundry to remove lint, dust, and other contaminants. 

Find a Container for the Whole Collection 

Exactly how much storage will you need for your toys? Take out all your freshly cleaned toys and their associated chargers and accessories. Impressive, isn’t it?  

If you only have a few, then you might be able to get by with a few plastic bags and an old shoebox. 

If you have a much larger collection, then you may want to consider a large under-bed organizer or Tupperware. 

Generally speaking, there aren’t many sex toy-specific storage options on the market today. So for most of us, stores like Bed Bath & Beyond and Target or online marketplaces like Amazon will be incredibly helpful. 

Visiting a brick-and-mortar store will make it easy to decide how big your storage container will need to be. We’ll just add a note here that if you’re planning to expand your collection at any point in the future, you’ll want to buy something bigger than you need right now. 

Next up, you’ll want to figure out how private your collection container needs to be. For example, if there are children or other prying eyes in the house, then you should probably try to find a container that uses solid materials, rather than translucent plastic.  

If you’re looking to be extra sneaky, you may even want to find a container that allows for a basic lock to be attached.

So you’ve cleaned all your toys, sorted out those pesky chargers and batteries, and found the perfect storage solution for the whole collection. 

Last but not least, it’s time to decide where you’re going to put it all. 

Since your toys are already in a container and individual bags, you won’t have to worry too much about environmental factors like direct sunlight, although temperature should always be a consideration. 

But much more important is finding a location where your collection will be easy for you to access, but hard for others to find. 

A classic choice is underneath the bed, where you’ll be able to reach under and take out your collection quickly and easily. 

This spot has the added bonus of letting your collection blend in with other storage boxes you may already have there. 

Closets and bathrooms can also be great choices, depending on your personal preferences.
